Reloading cast bullets for the 8x57 IS
I am going to order some cast bullets for my 8x57 Mauser for 25-100m stuff, can anyone recommend a good weight to start with, I have been shooting 198 and 200 grain jacketed so far however I would now like to try cast.

No lighter than 200 gn, 230 gns work well for me. For the longer distances that is with fast rifle powders,

Slugged the bore?
Lots of pistol cal bullets make good short range rifle bullets.
.32 in .308/7.62, etc.

Not slugged it yet, nor taken a chamber impression, I am more interested in weight and profile at this stage.

I have had good results with the Lee .329, 205gn 8x56 Hungarian bullet (mould No.90775) and gas checked down to .325, in both my K98 and Gew98 out to 300 yards.

I had some 240gr gas checked bullets I got from here (20 series I think) they shot great with 30gr of N140, if I could get some more I would.
