Just a quick query,
I mostly do home loads and when I put in for the last variation the FEO was concerned that i had not bought any ammunition for sometime, infact the section/page had nothing on it!!.
when i told him I did home loads he said to write this on the page so they would know???
and also to keep a log book of when/where/powder/brasss/heads etc etc was bought and dates when made up!!.

anyone else heard of this??

We record every round we make by date with full load details including the COAL and powder and even include weather information but we do not record it on our FAC's and I doubt I keep every receipt unless it has something else on it such as a set of dies.

My FEO advised that I put an entry on my FAC for selfloads periodically, to show source of any ammo I have in my possession. Entering it as self loaded.Thus hopefully avoidng a long awkward explanation In the event you were stopped and questioned as to why you have ammo not entered on your FAC. So I make an entry every 2-3 months. Simple way to hopefully keep everyone happy.

I asked my FEO about entering handloads on the FAC recently since I rarely, if ever, buy commercial ammo now, and either shoot ammo issued at team matches or individual meetings, or handloads in training. I was concerned that having previously pushed a little for a larger storage allowance I could justify needing the allowance if challenged, as well as showing a turnover of ammo to back up the logs of rifle usage. I was advised that it wasn't necessary to enter it (even if stopped carrying potentially large quantities that weren't entered on the FAC) but I could enter some periodically if I wished to show throughput. Of course, the views of different forces differ, and even of different FEO's within a force, so this shouldn't be taken as applicable in any particular situation.

I have a feeling the only entry on my FAC is the one you made Rox, and Christel is another good example, she has owned one particular rifle for 3+ years and never purchased a single round for it.

This bit has always worried me, using Christel as an example if an every day bobby was to check her FAC firstly they would see no entries and secondly the headstamp on her ammunition is for 6.5x47 which is not on her FAC..

Cambridgeshire Police dont ask reloaders to keep records,receipts or enter anything onto their licence.Common sense says that if you're not buying ready made and nothing is being written on your ticket and you're still using your guns-you're reloading.

On my last variation i said to my FEO i reload and then noticed him jot something down so atleast they're aware.

Firstly, if you're a target shooter, your club will have records of your attendance so you don't have to worry there. Secondly, if purely for game and vermin, if you're not shooting, I could see the land owner having something to say.

But more importantly, one of the previous ammendments to the Act or HO/ACPO guidance stipulates you cannot make entries on your own certificate! I'll hunt out which one.

All of my tickets going back decades have only ever had rimfire ammunition entered on them. As for explaining why there is no entries on an FAC when in possession of ammunition, what if it was a renewal/replacement or varied ticket?

You MUST sign your Certificate IMMEDIATELY and in INK with your usual signature (the only time you should write on your own Certificate is to sign it).

Got politely told off by my FLO when I did write down my reloading on my certificate. He said a reloading log would be sufficent.

I have a book so when I purchase , powder , primers and bullets it is entered in , when I load ammo I enter how many and the details of the load , then when I use some I enter that and keep a running balance of what I have left in stock .
I have never entered any on my FAC or been asked to do any of the above

I have a box with several hundred spent primers in, if anyone asks for proof of reloading I can bring out my "evidence" I also keep hold of the powder tubs, at roughly 180 rounds a tub its a quick "ready reckoner" and of course the Club keep records as well
