Longbranch Lee Enfield proof marks

#1 Post by bhodge »

Hi guy's, just a quickie...
Can anyone confirm that the proof mark is a co-joined 'LB' symbol.
I'm asking because I recently bought one and its littered with that symbol - everywhere... from the muzzle to the bolt head, to the sling swivels etc. its everywhere - Apart from the breech area - where I would of expected it to be!

The superimposed "L on B" mark is just the maker's mark - its nothing to do with actual proof.

Savage rifles have "square S" marks, Fazakerleys have "F", BSAs have "B" (for 1941 production No4s) or "M47C" (metal parts) and "M47A" (woodwork). Maltby has a strange art deco "M".

In addition, there were over 100 sub-contractors, and these all have code numbers or factory initials.

Ahh right, thanks for that.
I thought there were far too many LB's on it!
Makers marks, makes perfect sense.
