Pistol Shooting at the Phoenix

As I drove past the zero range on Saturday I saw the old pistol ranges in use for the first time, I had to do a double take as the competitors were using some kind of pistols.

Did anyone get down there and see what was going on? was it soft air?

It was air pistol shooting. I was on the Zero range checking my Target rifle after fitting a Right Sight and one of the Airpistol RO's complained about the noise, as my 308 was upsetting the gentle little darlings. Told them to put ear defenders on.

I had not realised that air pistol was shot on that part of camp, for some reason I thought it went on down at the Lord Roberts centre,

I used to love the look from peoples faces with my Smith 629 44mag with a 2" bbl I think it was mainly shock :lol: :lol: or was it a shock wave oh happy days

It does! Ure right,what they were doing was c02 rapid fire plates and some other c02 stuff,it was new I think for the phoenix meeting,looked like great fun! Just why they were sighted on the zero range I don't know!

You guys want to get out more, they have been shooting this type of event at the Phoenix for some years now. In the past it's been on the lawn at the back of Fultons, the old short pistol ranges are probably a better location and safer too.

The UKPSA ran the event at the back of Fulton's, or in front of the London and Middlesex club - depending how you looked at it.

It was my understanding that this was more of a display event and was aimed at making people aware of the sport - although a competition was taking place within the same period.

The show after the Violent Crime Reduction Bill came in, I remember a large air-soft seller having a stall and behind that was a tent which I believe some small competition was taking place in.
Unfortunately he has not been back to the event since I saw a NSC official speaking to him re who he could sell to and who he could not (The NSC official was correct).

So up un till now I was not aware of air-soft events as being part of the Gallery Rifle Action Weekend scene. I had neither seen the competitions listed in the entry forms or the Bible.
I hope that they are and that they are a success.

They were not using the zero range but the old pistol ranges to the side, which I have never seen used before - so nice if the are getting used and if the air-soft users have a "home".
