Reloading the 22-250 H4895 v IMR4895

#1 Post by ovenpaa »

Has anyone have any experience of IMR4895 versus H4895 with 50 grain projectiles and the 22-250?

No experience with it in this calibre. If it's what you have on the shelf, then give it a go. If you're looking to specifically obtain a powder for .22-250, then H380 would be my go to propellant.

There's no reason why IMR4895 wouldn't work, it's a very versatile powder.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

I have the usual suspects, H4895, Varget, TR140/RS50, N140 plus a load of stuff either side however I do have nearly a tub of IMR4895 as well and I would much sooner test with powders I have. Only possible downside is temperature stability, H4895 has seemed OK in the past, not so sure about IMR4895.

I'd go ahead and give the IMR4895 a go.

Many thanks for the powder Duey, I am going to sit down towards the end of the week and build some test rounds with a variety of powders including H380 and see how they group and what sort of MV's they give.
