New rifle (308 Remington 700 with AIAX Chassis)
Chaps,
Does anyone have any experience with the above rifle / company which is available from the following website:
http://www.rimfiremagic.co.uk/remington700.html
All told, with a custom trigger, 20 moa rail and tactical bolt it comes in at just under 2k as such would any other 308 rifle be better?
I am under the impression that using the ai ax chassis would be more comfortable and easier to shoot than the stock one, hence the new chassis?
Regards,
Paul

Personally I like the AI set up, but it's not for everyone I would suggest you try one if you can before parting with your hard earned cash.
What is a Sapper? This versatile genius condenses the whole system of military engineering and all that is useful and practical. He is a man of all work of the Army and the public ready to do anything or go anywhere, in short, he is a Sapper.

I had a Remington 700 PSS in an AICS. All the bells and whistles. I sold it last year for £1400. (Gun, mag, rail only)
I only sold it to trade up for a real AI with a 30" barrel. Was very choosy about who I sold it too as well. No fun being beaten with your old set up!
Rimfire Magic or South Yorkshire Shooting Supplies are a top notch outfit. Roger is just superb at tricking out guns.
£2k seems a lot but I suspect you will enjoy the quality, long after the price is forgotten.
My gun was a McQueens machine.

Very tidy looking secondhand TRG for a fraction over your budget on guntrader. I'd be struggling to avoid at least having a look at it, in your position.
Also very impressed with a Sako 85 Varmint Laminate and Savage 12 FTR we had come along on a long range shoot recently, both of which new would be comfortably under your budget.
EDIT: Bore described as "in good condition although it is showing some signs of slight pitting". Maybe not, then.

The company (RimFire Magic, a.k.a South Yorkshire Shooting Supplies) frequently gets a mention on here and usually with complimentary comments about the service provided by Roger and Sheila (the husband and wife team that run things).
I pointed one of my friends at them when he was looking at a new rifle and he went for something similar to your suggestion but with one of the Choate Ultimate Sniper stocks. To be honest, I don't really like the look of the stock (it looks ok from the side but is very wide when seen from the top). With a little load development though, the gun really does shoot very well.
Then more recently, I was tasked with the purchase of a new club gun for my club and took the same route. For this one I went with the Magpul Hunter stock, along with the Magpul floorplate so that it takes AI mags. The trigger is the factory unit, but it has been fettled by Roger and I'm very happy with it. All told, the cost was less than £1,300 and that included the rail, a 10 round mag and RFD transfer fees. Sheila told me the rifle would take about a week and then had it ready in around half of that time. I couldn't fault the service.
If you are undecided, it is well worth giving them a call. They've always been very patient and happy to explain options whenever I have called.

Tithras - that's a popular 'pimp' for a Remmy SPS and with new trigger, rail and tactical bolt-knob it's good value for under two grand.
Roger is a really nice guy and if you like the ergonomics of the AX stock (I do) then I'm sure you will be well pleased.

Re: New rifle (308 Remington 700 with AIAX Chassis)
I'd have to echo the comments about Roger and Sheila - I bought my first rifle from SYSS (a 308 Remmy 700) and they were both extremely helpful.
Might be easier to comment on alternatives if you let us know the intended use, but another option might be the Ruger Precision Rifle (around £1300 I think)?

With the new Ruger Precision version (Mk2?) now released you may even find the Mk1 with some discount in a few months.
Re: New rifle (308 Remington 700 with AIAX Chassis)
I had an original Remington barrel on my 308 from riflecraft that would shoot 1/2moa with factory tap ammo and my reloads that I put a borescope down once , OMG I would not have brought that rifle if I'd seen the bore(I was many thousands of rounds in to be fair) but my goodness it shot well so I would be inclined to shoot a barrel before you dismiss it because of a bit of pitting/wear.zanes wrote:Very tidy looking secondhand TRG for a fraction over your budget on guntrader. All, thanks for your input, sounds like a good place to purchase from :)
It also looks like I need to find an AI AX and try out the stock before purchasing, I like the look of them just hadn't thought of trying first !
