Ebay/Pitney Bowes Global Shipping Programme.

#1 Post by bobbob »

Bnz sold a Parker Hale rear target sight a couple of weeks back. The buyer was in Canada, the delivery went through via the Ebay Global Shipping Programme. No issues at all.

He sold another one last week to a buyer in Australia. He followed the same procedure, shipped it to the centre in Derbyshire and waited for a signature to confirm delivery. As nothing arrived he called ebay yesterday. Not very helpful, said he'd have to claim after 30 days if he thought it had gone missing.

Today he received an email saying the transaction cannot be completed as it’s a restricted item. He also got a message from the buyer to say he had been refunded but didn’t know why. Bnz has been told he can keep the money but according to the “rules” the item will probably be destroyed.

Since when has a Parker Hale sight been a restricted item? The buyer said he has bought several from the UK, not restricted there or here.

Pitney Bowes, the Global Shipping agent, say that restricted items will be destroyed or possibly returned if the seller pays the cost. He would gladly refund the money if they will send it back. (The buyer still wants it). Bnz called ebay and they have now said someone from the shipping centre will contact him in 24-72 hours. By then it will probably have been destroyed. :bad:

Anyone else had similar issues? Did you get your items back?

We have now withdrawn from the GSP!

Pitney Bowes is an American company I believe so I'd have thought they'd be less inclined to stop an item like this. I think more likely someone in Derbyshire having a panic attack. wtf

Sue, tell Neil to get straight on the phone and inform them to complete the transaction as contracted or return the item, at their cost to you. Failure to do so, inform them a complaint if theft will be made to Derbyshire and any attempt to destroy the item will see a complaint of criminal damage being made. There may even be an argument fir one of fraud by false representation or even fraud by abuse if position.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Only if you're looking to to cuff a crif. Companies have a legal identity in their iwn right and individuals are excused not criminal liability because they perform a commercial function.

Has it been stopped in the UK? It's NOT restricted in the UK so it should come back to you should it not?

Small claim: Sue for "recovery of possession" or the cash amount plus costs.

Yes stopped at the GSP Derbyshire depot, I have to wait until they contact me within the next 72 hours, by then too late to do anything.

This is my opinion and I do not have any proof, but I think it's gone walkies from that depot.

Mods if you think this over the top then please remove this statement.

Que?
They'd REALLY have to be reading the wrong page to bring ITAR into the equation.
Doesn't apply to either country & the item wasn't being despatched from the US.
So you're probably bang on...as II've had eBay listings (of WW2 era military antiques) rejected as being in breach of ITAR

If eBay promote something you can bet your last penny on it being a p*** poor idea for anyone other than eBay!
