NEED SOME ADVICE ON 308 DIE
Hi
Need some advice one the best die for a 308. i am using a redding die at the moment but it making the brass and its the second time i have had this problem i have a 335 bushing replaced as they said it was faulty but again i am having the same problem again with this replacement one.making the brass so i have decided to get a new die.
What die would you recommend, it will be for neck sizing only and i don't want to go back to lubing the neck
Thanks
Andy

Re: NEED SOME ADVICE ON 308 DIE
I use a 336 gold (TiNi) bushing in mine and just keep it clean, how are you cleaning the case necks before you size them? Forster are a handy alternative but they will still need a wipe of Imperial sizing wax from time to time as a lube.
Re: NEED SOME ADVICE ON 308 DIE
A Lee Collet die for neck sizing, I swear by them. No lube required.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Re: NEED SOME ADVICE ON 308 DIE
I have only ever used RCBS and never had a problem in about 6 different calibres over 40 years...full length and neck sizers, better if you can stretch to carbide.

Can you attach a photo of the problem you're having?
Are you sure you don't have the micrometer on the die screwed down too far (if it has one)?
I would get the process working with a little lube before trying to work without lube. You really don't need much for neck sizing, and it wipes off in a jiffy.

Hi
I clean my brass in a tumbler could it be the powder from tumbler mede ?
also i have just snapped two pins that make three pins in two weeks.
I have just invested in sonic cleaner if it is powder coming of the mede do you have any formulas for a sonic cleaner.

Why are the pins snapping? Unless you're mixing berdan-primed brass it suggests a problem with your die setup.

Two types of primers, boxer and berdan, boxer has a single flash hole and your die will eject the primer via the flash hole, berdan has two flash holes, is used in military applications and the primer cannot be ejected using a normal die.
If you snap ejector pins either the shaft they are fixed to is bent or you are using the wrong size pin (Doubtful with .308) or you are attempting to decap milsurp cases.
