A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools!!

There are two types of shooter - those that have shot their chronograph and those that will shoot their chronograph.
Arming the Country, one gun at a time.
Good deals with Paul101, Charlotte the flyer, majordisorder, Charlie Muggins, among others. Thanks everybody.

You should send that piccy to Chrony .... you never know, they might replace it for you and use it in their advertising!ukrifleman wrote:This happened recently when the gas check from a 6.5 cast bullet, became detached and punched a hole through the screen of my Chrony F1.

Re: I nearly killed the Chrony!
You're not trying hard enough, my friend had his destroyed when a wad from a black powder double rifle hit the LCD right in the middle.
After seeing that and another one destroyed after a shooter forgot where his muzzle line was due to the enormous scope I bought one of the Magnetospeeds, they have their quirks and getting the thing to stay put on a .318" WR sporting rifle can be challenging but it seems pretty robust and the SSD makes it easy to transfer data to a laptop/PC.

I destroyed my PACT chrono with quite a large audience including the better part of a Company of The Black Watch at Fort George back in the 1990s.
The Company Sergeant Major sidled up to me and said "That was a bit bloody silly Sir - can you do it again?"
Mucho embarrassment ensued

These days I use a Steinert Superchrono on the grounds that it is nigh on impossible to shoot and if I did it would probably be natures way of telling me to take up a new discipline :)

Re: I nearly killed the Chrony!
I haven't shot the actual chrony, but many years ago i did shoot one of the angled wires that supports the overhead shroud thing with a .45ACP... it bent the wire and dislodged the sensor it was attached to, so i've always been dubious about trusting the results since then.
