.222 Reloading for Vermin
I am about decided on the .222 as my 'in-between' rifle for vermin and was thinking along the lines of a 50 grain bullet and some N120 behind it Does anyone have any views on reloading for the .222?

You have made a wise and intelligent decision in going for the 222.
The more you hand load and shoot it the more you will appreciate its many virtues and absence of vices
55gn Hornady Vmax over 19gns of N120 does it for me in all my 222s mainly BSAs with the odd CZ. Bang on 3,000 fps and if it was machine rested in still air then 100 rounds would make a .224" hole.
.222" Phwoarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

24" barrel?
Re: .222 Reloading for Vermin
I'm using 52 grain A MAX boat tail on Saturday with Vitavouri N120 I will let you know how I get on.
Re: .222 Reloading for Vermin
Alpha1 - what distance will that be at? I would not expect to push beyond 175 yards with such a rifle for my own use.
Re: .222 Reloading for Vermin
I and latterly my son have been loading .222 Rem for around 30 years.
24" 1:14 BRNO, 50gr Noslers with H322. It's so good I've never looked at anything else and a tub lasts for ages.
Good to 250 yds if the shooter does his bit - my wife and I have shot more than a few roe deer with this rifle, plus foxes, white hares and even the odd head-shot grouse.

Re: .222 Reloading for Vermin
The rifle works very well. Unfortunately the scope I fitted off another rifle impeded the bolt opening the scope bell was to big. I changed it for another one I had in my bag the scope is a cheap and cheerful jobby.
I could not get it to focus so I ended up at 25yards.The scope was off about 3 feet to the right and way high.
I got on the paper eventually and the groups were tight. But not really a worthwhile test.
I love the calibre though. The scope is destined for the bin.
I will buy a decent scope when I work out what is a suitable scope for the job. Then I will re zero it at 100 yards.

50gr vmax over 19gr of imr 4198 works a treat for me, shoots vbulls all day at 600 if the wind is kind
