A morning at the range then off to the PUB?
Is it just me, or do others think this practise is a BAD idea?
Quite a number of people in one of my clubs regularly head off to the pub after shooting at the range..... it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that a convoy of cars (including 4x4's), some with BASC stickers in their windows turning up at a pub with tweed or camo clad people disembarking and heading inside probably DO have guns of some description inside their vehicles.
Then there is the aspect of alcohol and the risk of someone been stopped and breathalysed on the way home with guns onboard.
(typically shooters don't come to the range as couples so that there is a "designated driver" )
I went once not long after I joined as they had organised an important club meeting at the pub..... I took the bolts and mags out of my rifles and into the pub with me, bought a Coke and sat by the widow so I could see my landrover at all times. I felt really uncomfortable...... never been with them since. "IF" they really needed me to attend a meeting again I'd drive home first and put my guns away then return for a soft / non-alcoholic drink.
It might be "normal" for some shooters .... but its not for me.

That happens at our full bore shoots as well. I always take the bolts with me but no one else appears to do so.. (i won't drink if i'm driving though).

That only happens with my clay club and although we 'only' have S2 shotguns I still don't partake as the car park has no walls to park against

If they're breaking the law you should tell them.
Otherwise they are just members of the public going about their lawful business.
A bit of moral high ground never goes amiss though.

Each to their own
...how paranoid can we really get if we want to.
As long as guns are properly secured and in car, car in sight etc etc..
Of course never drink and rive - especially if you have guns in the car.
Maybe those who carry guns in their car should fit additional security, immobilisers and a tracker?..How far does one go?

Last time I went to the Bedford indoor range it had a Bar inside. No drinking before shooting rule did apply.

Changed days. Our works Gun Club used to have full time access to the local Police Range situated behind the Police social club. It was not uncommon for a bunch of Guys, some with holstered Pistols to congregate in the Police club for a pint after a shoot, nobody batted an eyelid.Chuck wrote:Each to their own...how paranoid can we really get if we want to.

Another good for reason for owning pistols, they can be carried securely on the person rather than left in the car.

Funny how if you'r gear DOES get nicked the victim is blamed, not the thieving scrote who did it! Blame the victim, it's what we do best nowadays!

The law though says that we should "take reasonable precautions" to safeguard our kit - leaving the whole lot in the car wouldn't really comply with that whether it gets nicked or not. At the very least you should take bolts etc with you.

Reasonable precautions rifles in boot car locked end ex
