Firearms Licencing & Medical Evidence Factsheet
I applaud your enthusiasm, even though your grip on reality may be somewhat tenuous......
Re: Firearms Licencing & Medical Evidence Factsheet
So! They want to ask GPs if we are fit to own Firearms?
According to this a fair number of GPs are too p1ssed and spaced out to be listened to.
In fact it seems many of them would not qualify for the Grant of a Licence themselves.
Intoxication 'rife among doctors'

Doctors are known to be at least three times as likely to have cirrhosis of the liver - a sign of alcohol damage - than the rest of the population.
This is second only to publicans and bar staff.

Ok is this now the LAW or more "made up as they go along" rules?.So! They want to ask GPs if we are fit to own Firearms?
In what way is a GP qualified to say you are fit or not? His opinion is "hearsay" because he is NOT an expert on anything specific, he's GENERAL practitioner who may or may not have an agenda.

Gun ownership is increasing and they hate this ! So the is one way to limit or revoke certificates!
This sort of change surly requires legislation? This seems ultra verias (beyond the powers)

Re: Firearms Licencing & Medical Evidence Factsheet
If it is NOT law then how can they enforce this - more abuse of powers??
If it IS against the law as written then the various associations should be all over it, and hard.

I am fortunate in that several doctors at my surgery are pro-gun. One regularly shot alongside me at the range as a club member and another has been as a guest quite a few times...... they understand what it is all about

Re: Firearms Licencing & Medical Evidence Factsheet
Copied from the site I originally saw the document, it appears this is guidance.
Davidfact sheet received from the Home Office via BSSC.
The Home Office, in sending this to BSSC commented “The medical guidance documents have been given clearance for publication as part of the revised HO Firearms Guide on 1 April. In the meantime, we are attaching the final version of the Factsheet which can be made available to your members”
This follows a review of the medical evidence system with input from all the stakeholders involved. I would draw your attention to the following paragraph.
”The new system has been developed following recommendations for change from coroners and the IPCC, and after the British Medical Association voiced concerns about weaknesses in the current process. It has been developed by the police and GP representatives, in conjunction with shooting organisations and the Information Commissioners Office.
Further improvements are planned for introduction later this year when police will contact each applicant’s GP during the application process instead of after the certificate is granted. Guidancewill be issued prior to introduction of these additional improvements”
UK has opted to continue with a “monitoring” system rather than the “test” system sought by the EU

Re: Firearms Licencing & Medical Evidence Factsheet
Already is a monitoring system before ! What's concerning they are now adding physical elements no doubt later on if you ever had the flue that's you out ! (OK over the top but you get the general idea )davidh195 wrote:Copied from the site I originally saw the document, it appears this is guidance.

I can see why the US gun owners don't want a certfication system, they see what's happened to gun owners in the motherland and see this crap !
