Expanding Missiles
A quick question for those with permission to shoot across land. Is your expanding ammunition indicated with 'Exp' after the type and quantity or do you have an additional condition stating you can possess, purchase or acquire expanding ammunition in the calibres authorised by the certificate?
I ask because I seem to have a mixture of both.

Only the latter on mine too.....
When someone says "it's not about the money" you know what? it probably is all about money!
Re: Expanding Missiles
Same here.
Re: Expanding Missiles
That is good then, I did speak to Lincolnshire Firearms about this yesterday afternoon and they seemed slightly confused by the question especially when I pointed out I am allowed to collect ammunition which is clearly described as either 'Exp Missile' or 'Armour Piercing' however there was no such marker for the calibres I will shoot across land nor quantities to be held, instead it is all lumped into one group. Bedfordshire would have marked the FAC with the quantity of Expanding Missiles to be held which is why I was unsure.
Re: Expanding Missiles
bit off topic, i dont understand why expanding ammo after 97 were put into section 5 (save from vermin control ) there are no more dangerous then FMJ rounds. expanding ammo is designed so that it doesnt go through its target ??
oh i forgot gun control network get their info from silly hollywood films !

Re: Expanding Missiles
Well expanding rounds are more likely to inflict a greater wound channel and therefore could be considered more dangerous to people. It was brought in because the police/media made a song and dance about Hamilton loading the mags of his Browning HP with alternate FMJ/expanding. Doesn't really make a difference when the person is shooting people at point blank range in the head of coursejoe wrote:bit off topic, i dont understand why expanding ammo after 97 were put into section 5 (save from vermin control ) there are no more dangerous then FMJ rounds. expanding ammo is designed so that it doesnt go through its target ??

It drives me nuts as a collector MarkBlackstuff wrote:Well expanding rounds are more likely to inflict a greater wound channel and therefore could be considered more dangerous to people. As I pointed out to someone last week, they may hurt if you sit on one but otherwise.
I see the clamping down on API etc but as you say, when an FMJ is going to do the job. In fact I expect you could argue that although not "Designed" to expand, the small cavity at the front of a HPBT match round would still expand a bit more than an FMJ.
I hear there have been various govt legal departments worrying about the match rounds used in the .338 LM sniping loads and the M262 Mod1 Blackhills match that is supposed to have been used operationally.
Like us I guess they would argue...."It aint meant to expand" (but that fact that it will is pretty well immaterial).
Our TOW missiles used to expand beautifully....just hated picking the bloody wire up though!!

Re: Expanding Missiles
I can imagine. So as a collector do they have to list every calibre on your FAC with an amount of '1' next to it!?
