Hi All,
Made an impulse buy at a gun auction today of a Sec2 Winchester Model 50 semi-auto.
I'm happy with the gun and the price (£140), wood is spotless and blueing etc. is as good as new; for 50 or 60 years old it's very nice indeed.
Only downside is the massive mussle break / compensator on it. I'll post a photo later but there's a compensator with (I think) an adjustable choke on the end of it.
Any suggestions? Just chopping it all off will take the barrel down to 22.5ish"
I'm thinking of cutting the barrel back and getting a more 'discreate' extension fitted to get back over 24".
Anyone had this done and got an idea of cost? Also, any suggestions of where in South Wales would be up for thie work?
Regards
David

No idea of cost
It may be brazed on....but DON'T do the job yourself if it'll make the gun a Section 5
Could be interested in the removed brake device if you're not keeping it

Re: Removing a muzzle brake
This will be your problem- would it have to go to an S5 dealer and are you then into the realms of "once an S5, always an S5 (ish)"?saddler wrote:No idea of cost

However, are you sure taking it off will drop it below 24"- sure it's not threaded into/over the muzzle?

NOT so for shotguns....they have a specific exemption relating to barrel length.zanes wrote:This will be your problem- would it have to go to an S5 dealer and are you then into the realms of "once an S5, always an S5 (ish)"?saddler wrote:No idea of cost

IF it drops under 24" it WILL need to be done at an RFDs though, NOT as a DIY project.
Re: Removing a muzzle brake
Hmm, I stand corrected. I have heard of something similar but I thought it referred to a defined period post-hungerford when owners were given a grace period to extend their shotgun barrels.saddler wrote:NOT so for shotguns....they have a specific exemption relating to barrel length.zanes wrote:This will be your problem- would it have to go to an S5 dealer and are you then into the realms of "once an S5, always an S5 (ish)"?saddler wrote:No idea of cost
