Attack in Australia

#1 Post by Chuck »

So how's their silly gun ban working out then?

Lessons will be learned: gun control does NOT affect criminals - only the law abiding people

One person has been killed and two others injured in a shooting during a 7-hour-hostage situation at a factory on the outskirts of Sydney. Local media report the gunman was shot dead and the three hostages have been released.

The incident took place in an industrial area in Ingleburn, a suburb 40 kilometers from Sydney on Monday, when a man armed with an automatic weapon, believed to be an AK74, took hostages at a local factory.
AK 74 - makes a change eh! ;)

Either way it shows how useless these so called "gun control" measures really are, whether in the UK, EU Australia - anywhere!

What confusing reporting even without the gunman being 33 and 43 years old.

Why obviously......it could be a 74, but more likely a Chinese Type 56 as actual proper AK-47s are now pretty rare.

AK 47 is a catch all for terrorist guns, like Hoover is a catch all for vacuum cleaners and Coke for any type of Cola.

Technically, semi auto's aren't banned in Australia but are are placed in a category that makes it very difficult to meet the good reason and need criteria. After Port Arthur, even semi auto 22lr rifles were treated the same as centre fires but that seems to have been relaxed not that it matters in this case.

AFAIK, this isn't being treated as a terrorist incident.

From here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-australia-35742169
His motives and relationship to those in the factory remain unclear, but the Sydney Morning Herald said Williams was a member of a motorcycle gang and that the man who was shot dead was connected to another motorcycle club
IF the facts are as suggested here and IF the "motorcycle club" isn't your innocent sort of motorcycle club then it doesn't sound like a huge loss, aside from the possible innocent guys who were injured/trapped, the cost to taxpayers of the police operation and the upset/worry this will have generated.
