The unstoppable AK

#1 Post by channel12 »

We all "know" that an AK will work in the toughest conditions, you can dunk it in mud and it keeps shooting. Or does it?

Poor stoppage drills.

In the first test, had he opened the bolt ( cock hook look ) and correctly identified the stoppage, all he had to do was remove mag, release the bolt back into battery and reapply the mag. Weapon would probably have carried on ok.

That said, nothing is instoppable. You will always find the odd AK defeated by dirt. Or the odd Land Rover defeated my mud.

Even icons are not perfect.

As Breacher said really, plus the fact the AK in the vid has more than likely got a US made a receiver......a US "parts kit" built AK is only as good as the person that puts it together.

Here's an AKMS that was buried for 18 year......

NOW your cookin' with gas!! shakeshout

That's what an AK should do ..... and I've seen enough of them in Rhodesia/South Africa to attest to their reliability in the hands of, er, less than skilled users who have rarely heard of oil or maintenance. ;)

However when they did the same test with an AR-15 !

https://youtu.be/YAneTFiz5WU

Never let evidence get in the way of the AK myth

The AK failed, the AR passed, end of.

Unfortunately as we can't have semi-auto's we can't replicate the tests over here.

If only everything was that black and white eh?.The results of one test on YouTube is hardly conclusive and not all AKs are created equally, for example a Russian Izhmash or Bulgarian Arsenal produced AK is much higher quality than say an Egyptian Maadi.

Most people just see "AK47".....but just Russian there is the original AK47 (three variants up to 1959), the AKM, AK-74, AK-101, 102 103, 104, 105. This doesn't include sub variants, the RPK/RPK-74 variants and variants from other nations!.

As Breacher said anything can fail, even the proverbial Swiss watch can break!!!.

My Russian watch broke today. Gutted. $12 on eBay for a vintage soviet watch. Loved that thing.

Most "watch repairers" won't even go near an old manual wind for less than £50 :(

We recovered a dozen that had been hidden in a well, back at base a little oil and a kickstart on the charging handle and they worked fine.
