My new Mosina M44

#1 Post by Livefast »

I finally picked up my Mosin Nagant M44 this morning from Rifleman Firearms near Taunton and I' m like a cat that got the cream! The Mosin was manufactured in 1945 at the Izhevsk Arsenal in Russia making it considerable older than it's owner. The bore is in great shape and is a lovely shiny silver so I can't wait to get down the range and shoot it now........after the customary clean!

No Comrade, Mosin bores aren't chromed. The Soviets didn't start chroming bores until 1950 with the SKS and AK-47.

No need to deploy the bayonet to get accuracy, just drift the front sight blade to get POA/POI.

My '45 vintage M44 shoots just as well without.

If you do deploy the bayonet and shoot corrosive ammo, don't forget to clean it afterwards to prevent a rusty bayonet.

Yes,you will loose blueing on bayonet-from ball of fire...but changing sights?-not practical,in some CSR comps you need to get bayonet ready-or penalty points... :p

The two M44s I've owned were both bang on with the bayonet folded in, never had to drift the sight over.As these rifles were more often than not shot with the bayonet folded in there is some debate as to whether they were originally zeroed with the bayonet out or not.....some say they were, others say they weren't.
