Does anybody else shoot theirs, and if so what do you use please ?

Slug the barrel find out exactly what size bullet you need then go from there.

I used 150 gn Loverins sized to fit the throat in the ones I've had, they all shot well even those with worn freebores.

Some of them have been pretty rough rifles too.

If you must stick with condom bullets then I would try some flat based examples, I have often found them to perform better in military rifles that aren't doing well with boat tails.

This may be about fit and better obduration, me I always cut to the chase and shoot cast bullets now.

That is a fair comment. If all else fails I will try cast

I mean the accuracy isnt terrible, it will certainly hit the target at 500 yards, but compared to my Krag, '03, and mausers it is some way off.

I use the same as you, I presume your using the standard 174gr you would also use in a .303 mine gets on the paper but the most I push mine to is 300yds, I have mine purely for the historic value and not it's accuracy, same as my type 38, even my K98 sniper is only used up to 300, that's as far as the scope elevation goes.

Correct and it is good to hear from another shooter that has one.
If you dont mind me asking, what powder are you using, I use IMR 4895 in most of my guns, but tried some of the finnish powder but not had great(er) results. I am yet to try IMR in the Type 99, so that could be my next try before I go pulling bullets and going the recycling route ?

If you do try using pulled bullets you might want to weigh them before reloading them. Over the years I've pulled bullets from milsurp rounds of all different calibers, always found bullets of different weight up to 5 Grns either way from the weight they were supposed to be. I used to batch them and load accordingly.

I use Vit N140 for most of my rifles as it's easy to get, all I can say is I have a starting load of 44.2 grains but as I say I prefer to shoot at short ranges such as 100, 200 and a max of 300 yds, most of my rifles are WW1 and WW2 and like the history with the odd shoot here and there.
