Firing pins from Europe?

#1 Post by huntervixen »

Hi all,

Can firing pins be sent through the post from Europe to the UK, or do they need to be RFD transferred??

Cheers, John

I know people who've bought them direct to the door but from UK sellers, can't see why it would be different for European sales. Never heard them described as a licenseable part either. Others mileage may vary.

A quick Google shows UK dealers are selling firing pins as FAC holders only. Make of that what you will!

As yet not a controlled part so in from an EU country should not be a problem. Continuity ACPO have leant on UK dealers to demand FACs for various non pressure bearing parts in the last few months which is why UK dealers are making the demand.

Technically, there are a controlled part in France & could only be bought there if you have a valid French FAC for the gun.

I would dispute that they were controlled parts in the UK as originally the only controlled parts in the UK were the pressure bearing parts that had to be proofed such as the cylinder of a revolver. All of these needed to be entered on the shooters FAC. It was explained to me that this was not totally true in that other parts were controlled but for ease of admininstration / and at the time there being little perceived threat no action was taken. (It was quite a complex explanation and I've forgotten it). You certainly should not have a problem importing a firing pin but MAY have to produce your FAC to get it is probably the correct answer for the current situation. The new proposals by the Law Comission are meant to clarify the situation.

My view is they are not controlled and you should be able to order them from Germany without issues however they may ask for an end user undertaking or similar.

From a personal view I would ask for sight of FAC if I was asked for a firing pin from an unknown/new customer. It is my prerogative and my livelihood, we have a number we can call 24/7 if we ever have any concerns about potential sales. I would use it in the blink of an eye if I have even the slightest doubt.

Ovenpaa I would not dispute your right to ask for sight of an FAC these days. As you say it's your livelihood.
