Hi all,
another query, i have a slot for a 7.92mm calibre on my license, however i have seen another rifle in 7.65 calibre that i fancy but i have no more space in my cabinet as i am up to the max guns allowed and would have to get another cabinet which i dont want to do, the question is can i change the slot from 7.92 authority to 7.65 would it incur the normal £25 variation fee. if i did it would be probably more hassle than its worth as sits very slow up here wih firearms enquiry, and i believed where as a one for one would be done a lot quicker than a normal increase.
i will ask the FEO tomorrow to see what they think. i have had hassle in the past and dont really want to rock the boat.
i shall bore you now with the long story !!!
recently i sold a 303 Lee enfield No 4, and quickly and applied for a one for one, i was morified when called back by the Police officer (even after the FOE, saying no probs) who worked in the firearms secion that they were going to refuse the request as i had already 4 lee enfields, i told him if i knew it was going to be refused i wouldnt have sold it in the first place and keeping the 5 that i had. I had to tell him that i shoot them in different competitions ie classic, vintage etc to name a few, i also pointed ou he different dates 1902, 1914, 1944 etc etc and they could only be shot in different classes, thankfully it was granted as anoher FEO who i spoke with said a one for one cannot be refused. (unless for a criminal offence)
certainly was trying at the time
regards
douglas

You've answered yor own question surely, it would be a 1 for 1 variation therefore no cost incurred by you other than the taxes that you are already paying to fund police forces activities.

At my club about 3 or 4 years ago we had a range day for the entire firearms licensing dept of Essex police from the top man down to the temp secretaries for this very reason , we have a lot of collectectors of older military firearms , see this web site from one of our members , some of the photos were done by my FEO . www.rifleman.org.uk ,
first off was a talk explaing the different variants of Enfield rifles and why one person would want to collect them all .
Then we took them to the firing line so they could see what it is like to use these rifles , some FEOs arent shooters , as for the secretaries mostly young ladies fresh out of uni , one shot was enough to put them off for life
It was a very good PR exercise . Personaly I have never had an application refused , but I do shoot all of my rifles and enter various classes in the club competitions so it is justifiable in my case .

Douglas....there is no stated limit on the number and type of firearms you hold in the Firearms Act. You do, however, have to satisfy the reqirement of useage. In other words if you use them you can keep them. Police cannot set an arbitary limit on how many Lee Enfields you have. Neither can they set a limit on how many firearms you have in total, so long as you have adequate security and prove usage then you can hold as many as you like (or can afford).
For them to say that as you already have 4 Lee Enfields you cannot have another is out of order.
I have 7 Lee Enfields, 5 x 303"s 1 x 7.62 and 1 x .22" plus I have another 2 x .303"s.....plus quite a few other calibre rifles, the thing is I use them and make sure the FEO knows this....and I have had no problems.
In the event of difficulties I always say to people get a copy of the Firearms Act and of the Home Office Guidelines and be prepared to use them. If it a'int in the Act then the Police cannot interpret the Act. If it a'int in the Guidelines then, again, the Police cannot put in there.
