RCO qual vs SCC

#1 Post by TattooedGun »

Quick question;

My SCC is about to expire at the end of this month. My RCO qualification lasts a fair bit longer. With an RCO qualification and identification, do I still need a valid Shooters Certification Card. Common sense would indicate if you can run a range, surely you can be part of one...?

It's inconsequential, really as I'll get my new SCC before this one is expired, but just an interesting thought...

Does RCO outweigh SCC...?

You do need the SCC however if you are an NRA RCO you can apply for an NRA SCC without having to attend a training course.

Ooh, good stuff, thanks for the heads up.

And I don't need to be a member of the NRA for this, or I do...?

NRA RCO, No individual NRA membership (yet, keep meaning to)...

No, you do not need to be an individual member of the NRA.

As I understand the rules, if you are not an individual NRA member you have to apply to your Primary Club for an SCC.

Being an RCO doesn't mean you know your come-ups and how your rifle/cartridge combination performs. If you are not an NRA member they may take issue with certifying your competency with the firearm, even though they may believe your competency in running a range.
Criteria for certification of NRA members by the NRA

1. The individual must be a Member of the National Rifle Association.
2. The individual must not have any outstanding safety offences recorded against them (any individual suspended for a safety offence must be retrained before being deemed safe).
3. The individual will be deemed as safe and competent if they satisfy one or more of the following:
a. They are a current qualified NRA Range Conducting Officer in that type of firearm
b. They are a current club coach or club instructor (having successfully completed the relevant NRA course)
c. They have successfully completed an NRA or CCRS (Council for Cadet Rifle Shooting) appropriate assessed range course within the past year
d. They have shot and recorded a score in a competition run by the NRA / NSC at Bisley within the past year
e. They have shot at least 3 times with the NRA Shooting Club within the past year
f. They are a shooter with the F-Class league
g. They successfully complete the NRA Range Safety Assessment and Competency Test
From this it looks like you may not be able to get the NRA to do it without attending a match or competency course. Number 1 above would be the problem.

Good deals with Paul101, Charlotte the flyer, majordisorder, Charlie Muggins, among others. Thanks everybody.

I must admit I got my SCC issued on the basis of being an RCO and shooting F Class competitions at Bisley whilst being an individual member of the NRA, I was also a trade member and club member at the time. These days I am no longer with the NRA.
