F Class league - Blair Atholl 7/8 May

#1 Post by 20series »

I can only say that the scenery at Blair Atholl Range is stunning, as you can see :) these pics were taken on the Wednesday after we'd arrived on Tuesday and it was glorious.

Sadly the weather broke later in the week, but with the exception of the first detail on Sunday when a torrential downpour and squall blew through we managed to stay reasonably dry. The fold out Gazebo's are a great help

There was a blow off session both mornings to allow some cheeky sighting in, which in fairness sounds like cheating but no-one wants to be wrecking the electronic scoring frames, I was surprised that I was a good way high 3 MOA :o but this was due to the reasonably strong back wind and the fact the the actual distance is apparently 987 yards ;).

The Course of fire was three matches of 2+15 on Saturday and two matches 2+20 on Sunday.

The great thing with the electronic target system used at Blair was that as soon and the firing point became free the next pair could get started, meaning the day kept moving without long stops for changeovers etc.

I had set a goal of finishing somewhere in the middle, which I achieved finishing up 14/23 in the F-TR division, results here.

All in all a great weeks holiday, I took my dad away for a break and great fun shooting at the weekend, I can only again say what a warm and friendly bunch the F-class shooters are and very helpful with advice for newbie like me.

Now that is a range!

Well done on your final position.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

cheers guys,

The next league shoot is in July at Bisley "the long range challenge" 1000, 1100 and 1200 yards so that could be interesting.

I didn't mention earlier but surprisingly the F-TR leader after Saturdays shoot was shooting a .223 :o which just proves that the right .223 setup is competetive.

Well done Alan, good to meet you!

That range looks like a stunning place to put holes in bits of paper!

How do I go about entering into that league? Mailed them a while back and as a result now shoot the long range stuff with Ibis, but would like to get out with the F-class league and see how I'm actually getting on (almost certainly a rollup answer is 'very badly indeed' but I'd like to put a very-bad number on that!!)

Many thanks.

Send a cheque for GBP15 to MikMak and you are a member! - PM Christel she has the application forms and contact details. After that it is just a matter of getting an entry in and turning up. Next F Class shoot (Non League) is at The Phoenix end of this month. You have a choice in that you can shoot both 400/500/600 and 800/900/1000 if you wish, entry is around 35 quid for the two from memory.

With luck Christel will read this shortly as she know more about the details than I do ;)

I hope it all makes sense, if not just ask!
Oh and welcome to the forum Mr_Logic.
