hornady firearm parts sonic cleaner

#1 Post by bradaz11 »

FFS!!!!

now I bought some of this - http://www.hornady.com/store/Gallon-Siz ... Solutions/

all the write ups say - 'safe for all finishes'

although apparently not blueing, as my pistol cylinder is now distinctly unblued!! its not even all that clean :( It now looks like I need to find someone to re-blue it. total pain in the bum.

any idea why it took it off if it's supposed to be safe?

Sounds like either the solution is a concentrate and needed diluting. Or more likely that the "bluing" wasnt real bluing and just a coating which ultrasonics are really good at removing.

If you want to see the damage ultrasonics can do place a piece of aluminium foil in and switch it on. A good cleaner will destroy the foil in a couple of minutes.

I use James SeaClean in ultrasonic and stainless steel media tumblers and it works well without any apparent loss of coatings.

I'd ping Uberti and see what they say about ultrasonics and their finish.
