Airlines that carry guns

#1 Post by dodgyrog »

My pal is flying into Belfast with his rifle but can't find a carrier to take him up to Glasgow!
Does anybody know of any airline that flies that route and carries guns?

Er - thought I'd sorted it

BMI allow guns in the hold - no extra charge - but no route available from Belfast with them!!

As an aside, I was at Heathrow a couple of weeks ago, and saw a number of gentlemen queuing at a counter. One had a nondescript case with him. There was no doubt as to the contents, as there was a big yellow sticker on it stating "FIREARMS".

I don't know if Flybe have a route, I went with them from Norwich to Jersey back in 2008, had to pay sports luggage extra which iirc was£50 at the time.

Flybe are so fecked up it's unreal!

Cheaper to fly Glasgow - Istanbul with BA than Glasgow/ Exeter with Flybe - and quicker too!

BA fly to Glasgow - where's he flying from?

Easy Jet from Belfast International (Aldergrove) into Glasgow is your best bet.

BA and Aer Lingus fly from Belfast City but Easy Jet are best 'firearm friendly' airline in my experience.

Otherwise he could get the boat from Larne/Belfast into Cairnryan/Stranraer!

It's quite common to see a pile of "Firearms" stickers behind the check-in desk although I've never seen any attached to luggage before.

I had no problem with Easyjet flying from and to Gibraltar. At Gatwick an Easyjet check in youth recognised the case and directed me to the correct desk. There they couldn't find a "firearm" sticker so the young man shouted to all the other desks." Has anyone got a firearm sticker?" There were only about 300 people in the queues!! When I flew from Gib, customs took the gun from me and customs in the UK had it waiting for me. When I landed in Gib I surprised to find my rifle case going around the carousel with an sticker on it saying "Firearm". Nothing like telling everyone!!!

That will have cost the airline a £10k fine.

Or so I was told when it happened to my rifle case once.

I had that happen at the airport in Switzerland......asked police where to collect firearms (S1 shotgun)...he just pointed to the carousel. They were very relaxed about it..unlike BA and their myriad of forms (albeit you get right to the front of the queue). To be fair though they called me to tell me I hadn't booked any ammo - did I want to add some..?? .Now that's service! :D
