Hornady Lock-N-Load Auto Charge Powder Scale and Dispenser
Is anyone using the Hornady Lock-N-Load Auto Charge Powder Scale and Dispenser on this forum? I only have experience of the RCBS so I would be interested to hear any feedback regarding accuracy, over throws etc.

Re: Hornady Lock-N-Load Auto Charge Powder Scale and Dispens
Me, for about 3 years. Brought one back from Florida for under $200 :)
In use, it throws consistently to -0 +.1gr, I did get a few overthrows to +.2gr using extruded stick (N140) but you can adjust the point when it goes into "trickle" speed and this reduced it considerably, now I may get 3 or 4 per 100 charges.
It has a couple of hidden options which can be set to improve the throw accuracy with a particular powder, ball.stick, flake etc. and these are easily done using the keypad.
All in all a very nice bit of kit and a lot cheaper than the Lyman or RCBS.
I've put copies of the instructions and hidden menu options on my Dropbox for you in PDF format,

Hope this helps :)
Just a thought, I don't have any rifle loading to do for the next 2-4 weeks so if you want to pay the postage I can let you borrow it to have a play with :)

Did you arrive at this range of variation using an dependable external calibrated balance, or is this just what the machine says itself?phaedra1106 wrote:In use, it throws consistently to -0 +.1gr

It's what the dispenser says but I do check every 10th throw against my RCBS 505 and it's always dead on

Re: Hornady Lock-N-Load Auto Charge Powder Scale and Dispens
That's some useful information. I'm using an RCBS uniflow powder charger and when I use RS50 powder (extruded stick) I find ~10% of the time the meter will "crunch" and cause it to overthrow >1.0gr which I find annoying. Ball powders are perfect however. I'm starting to move away rfom using ball powders and currently have one calibre left to convert to stick powder, therefore I reckon I should save some sheckles up for one of these gizmo's.phaedra1106 wrote:In use, it throws consistently to -0 +.1gr, I did get a few overthrows to +.2gr using extruded stick (N140) but you can adjust the point when it goes into "trickle" speed and this reduced it considerably, now I may get 3 or 4 per 100 charges.

When I first started in FTR I wasted about 6 months on one of these before realising that it was all over the place
I ended up sending it back and went on to other faster more reliable methods, mine might just have been a dud but I would have trouble in recommending one to a chum
As with many opinions etc on here it depends what outcome you are looking for......

Re: Hornady Lock-N-Load Auto Charge Powder Scale and Dispens
The reason I asked is I have been asked to supply some 'Thingys' for the Hornady, we know they work to great effect with the RCBS and we have shipped them right around the world, even with the likes of TrailBoss and the coarser Viht and RS offerings. So building for the Hornday seems like a logical move, however I was curious on two counts, firstly are the UK feed tubes ones any different to the US one dimensionally and what is the typical error seen.
