On my .223 FTR rifle I normally set my NF 8-32 to about 20x and find this to be a happy medium between precise aiming and stability of picture, I find at that short a range 32x magnifies movement a bit too much I don't tend to use 32x until I am past 300x.

With a rested rifle you can't have too much magnification. If you want to shoot small groups at 100 yds copy the Benchrest shooters and use at least 32x mag.

10x works really well at 100 yards, just enough mag to keep a decent FOV and still see the impact holes... Or use lower mag scope with a shoot 'n' see target.

As high as you can get, on my Anschutz .22 I use x25 at 25 yards. I find higher magnification helps reduce body movements.

I'm also a believer in the more the better if you are looking for really tight groups.
