Remington SPS Tactical not grouping well
Well i went out yesterday with my Remington 700 SPS Tactical 20" .223, run the barrel in whilst zeroing, and then tried some three shot groups....not impressed at all grouping all over the place, did manage a couple of bullseyes but second two were a good inch and half away and probably half inch apart, think i need to find some more ammo to try as i only had geco 63gr. I originally wanted a PSS but they are like rocking horse poop, where would be the best place to try and get a PSS stock from as most people seem to replace stocks first job. P.s its not my shooting, i can cloverleaf with a couple of lads PSS at the range, im really disheartened now, could it be the stock or ammo not suiting my gun, gun bought new with barrel recrowned, and run in 1 shot clean etc

What twist is the barrel? If it's a 1:12" it may not be stabilising the 63gr bullets? I'd try different brands of ammo first, have you tried 55gr bullets? How about handloads (if you have the equipment that is). Do you have any pics of the target? Also what does the Crown look like now? If it's a botch job then that will more than likely be your answer. I'm also wondering why it was recrowned if it's a new rifle.

A. Try different brands/weights of bullets
B. The gun may need a couple of hundred rounds through it before it starts performing as it should.

Inch and a half with Geco is about as good as you can expect! (I take it you were at 100yds?)
if it is a new SPS Tactical it will have a 1:9 twist barrel, so should be no issue with bullet weight - just poor ammo!

Also, even if this ammo works in a friends rifle, it doesn't mean that it will match well with your rifle.
Agree, probably bad ammo. Try some more. :)

I was at 100 yds and its 1:9 twist, i shot at targets and i had one bang in centre then two out at an inch each, barrel was recrowned as the place i got it from does them automatically as they say they are not good from factory

Re: Remington SPS Tactical not grouping well
My Rem 700 police had a factory crown up until recently and although it wasn't perfect, I loaded rounds to .75 MOA (3/4" at 100 yards).
I haven't managed to get out with it since getting it min-headspaced, threaded and recrowned yet. But 1.5 MOA from factory ammo doesn't seem bad...
Were your friends rifles you were using fed the same/factory ammo, or reloaded ammo? to achieve the better results?

The gun will settle down & start performing once it has had a couple of hundred rounds through it...so early days.
Get some rounds through it THEN start worrying about poor groups
