home made gun cabinet

Has anyone on here made or had made a cabinet for there guns ?
I have an ideal space but cannot find a cabinet to fit .
Is it reasonable to make or have made a bespoke one
I have access to benders/folders & guillotine ,I can weld and can have the finished article powder coated or sprayed .
Or does it need to have a BS stamp ?

Mine doesn't. It just needs to comply with the minimum spec. However that's quitehard to find.

from memory, it needs to be at least 3mm thick, no exposed hinge and at least 5 lever mortice locks...

I made my own; lined an area with 3mm sheet steel; angle iron door frame, 6mm steel door with 3 x 7-lever locks. Police had no issues with it.!

Ah, theres the handbook, don't know why I couldn't find the cabinets section in it (Section 7).

Go for it as long as it meets specs it should be fine in fact you could probably exceed the standards with little effort

if you wanted to err on the side of caution, buy a cabinet roughly the right size (i'm thinking BS vault type door), cut away the front of the safe and mount that on the new cabinet, police can't grumble about the locks then.

as long as your welding is up to scratch that is, as mig'ing it up wouldnt really do the job.

mig'ing it up wouldnt really do the job.

I use a MIG to weld railway carriage crash pillars, I'm sure 3mm plate or whatever it is shouldn't pose too much of a problem! Mind you, it is a 300A 3-phase MIG...
