Shooting a TR comp for the first time.

I will be shooting a TR comp for the first time this weekend. We'll be shooting in threes probably. I know that I will record the score for the shooter on my right but I'm not sure what I should shout out. Is it just the score or is it something else? I've heard others call 'magpie' and similar - what's the form please?

Lots of possible answers, but I'm kind of minimalist about it.
I call out the score as follows:

Vee, five, four, three, two, one, clear target.

Conversions usually go something like this:

Me (after his 1st sighter): "Vee"
Me (after his 2nd sighter): "Five"
Him: "I'll take both please"
Me: "Second-on Vee"

Near the end of the shoot I'll throw-in the shot number just in case he has lost track:

Me: "Five, nine-on"

Some folk will call out the whole shebang: "First sighter, inner scoring four".

I go with the "second sighter, inner four; first on, bull five; two on, magpie three" approach. If they convert the sighters I immediately call out "first on, vee bull" etc. It's a phonetic alphabet, basically, so the other firer is confident you've written down the right score.

V = "vee bull"
5 = "bull five"
4 = "inner four"
3 = "magpie three"
2 = "outer two"
1 = "hit one"
0 = "clear target"

It's very unsporting to bellow out "magpie three" if the other person looked like they were going clean up until that point...

Gaz - what's the difference between a 4 and an 'inner 4' - or for that matter a 3 and a 'magpie 3' - or even a 2 and an 'outer 2' ?

From the Current Bisley Bible:

He must then call out
the result clearly, giving the target number, (or the competitors name), followed
by the shot number, the colloquial name (if any) for the scoring zone, and the
points value eg “Mr Smith, third to count, bull five”.

I've never heard the name called out, few call out the number of every shot, but 'bull five/inner four' etc makes it more likely that the firer will hear his score over general noise on the firing point.

And to go back to the OP, Watcher, you'll be scoring for the firer to your left, not right, unless you're the left hand firer, when you'll score for the right hand firer - it's shoot/score/get ready to shoot.

If you are with 2 other 'experienced' shooters just explain this is your first/second shoot-please go easy on me.

We ALL had our first shoot. NO ONE should get p**sed off if you are slow or make a mistake or two. If they do, file it and remember for another day!

There are a few prima donnas and they all come out at The Imperial!! This year I shot with some first timers and as soon as they said they were virgins we helped them along.

Just enjoy yourself!
