Ivythorn Shooting: they do make 'em like they used to...
You may recall, oomans, that we were looking for agood boar gun. ( http://full-bore.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f= ... t=boar+gun )
We've just been down to our Somersett and purchased a fine 9.3x74 / 12 bore combination gun from Steve Beatty at Ivythorn, a dealer we recommend most heartily. Ivythorn have an excellent selection of well priced bangsticks, and facilities to try them on too. (Clay range, centrefire ranges at 25, 50 and 100 mards). They don't actually try to sell you anything though ! Steve listens to what you want, shows you what they have in stock that meets the requirement and lets you decide.
We dropped by to look at a Zoli combination gun Steve had put aside for us and were mightily impressed by the service, both that we experienced and that we saw being given to other customers. No simple handing over of a box and taking of cash here. The gun was unboxed, stripped, every part checked and explained, re-assembled, a scope fitted and then tested for accuracy. Not until Steve is totally happy with a gun will he let you leave the shop with it. Even second paw firearms get a goodly guarantee ! Louis, the assistant, is equally helpful and committed to good service ! Makes excellent coffee, too, and can shoot very well !

Oh indeedy. Steve answers emails and teffylone calls promptly and freely dispenses advice based upon real knowledge rather than regurgitating manufacturers' press releases. Louis is the same too: equally professional. We respected the way he carefully examined our FAC and counted exactly how many bullets we are permitted in the calibres we were purchasing. True professionals and very nice oomans ! They also have an amazing gun room to browse around...

We're wondering if this big efferlump gun might be a candidate for cast boolits. Big lumps of lead sound ideal for hunting...

Aren't big lumps of lead illegal for hunting? They certainly are here in the Scotland where a bullet with controlled expansion is mandatory, I assume that this is the same elswhere in the UK.

Depends if the big lumps of lead have come from a hollow point mould.DW58 wrote:Aren't big lumps of lead illegal for hunting? They certainly are here in the Scotland where a bullet with controlled expansion is mandatory, I assume that this is the same elswhere in the UK.
