Coggswell & Harrison

#1 Post by meles meles »

We know Coggswell & Harrison were famed for their shotguns but is seems they now do rifles again too: the Certus in .223 and .243 Anyone out there have any experience of them ?

Certus were their range of rifles at the turn of the 20th century. They made as many and we're just as famous for their rifles as their shotguns, when subjects of the realm were actually free....
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

I should have also said, I wouldn't be surprised if these were being made for them by someone else....

It seems they are now offering a new Certus, all polymer stock and modern steel... We're wondering if they are made in Goode Olde Albion, or are badged wampum...

I could only find reference to a new production of shotguns strangely on what I assumed was the official C&G website. Very strange. Probably someone bought the name (the company at this point must have been dormant for half a century) so a purchase of name was probably very easy. Wasn't someone also on about reviving parker hale not that long ago also?

If they're anything like webley and scott.... made outside the uk. That 10/22 clone webley sells is made in the Philippines (currently part of a lawsuit brought on by ruger right now) and a centerfire that was basically made by howa. I'm not even sure how many bsa airguns are made in the uk as opposed to China, Spain or Turkey also.

Looking at the new Certus, they seem to be a Remington 700 action dropped into a Bell & Carlson stock...

There doesn't seem to be much fan fare about them from C&G....

Coggswell & Harrison were owned by Interarms at one point but I'm not sure what happened when Mr Cooper died and Interarms faded away. Most famous British 'Names' have been bought up with various plans to use them either to produce 'High End' guns which either never happen or involve foreign makers.
