Scout rifle mounting ring for VZ58

Scout rifle mounting ring for VZ58
I just had an idea. I have a VZ58 with the scout style mount from canada. Its only enough for one item though not two, does anyone know of a single stable mounting ring that could be used to stably hold a long relief scout style scope like the Burris one at all?

The old scope mount issue with the VZ58, if you want to go the scout route then get either the Fab defense Polymer rail:

or the Fab defense Aluminium rail:

As for single piece rings that are a good quality at a good price you can't really go wrong with Vortex, maybe the 2" offset reversed:

Alternatively you could try the side mount if you don't want to go down the long eye relief route, problem is the side rail tends to lift the scope too high and close to the eye (ironically). Also you still have the problem with case ejection into the scope unless you can find a scope which doesn't protrude too far forward:

There is a replacement top cover but same issue as the side rail imho:

I have been experimenting using the method that Pete Moore has with his VZ58 by using a 4" offset Vortex mount, mounted off the polymer rail. To be honest I am not entirely satisfied with the results but it is worth a try:

All is not lost as there is a new solution on the market in Canada from Magwedge (the company that makes those silly 10rd AR mag couplers for the Canadian market), which is a full length rail with integral case deflector. The only catch is:
a) You have to take off the rear iron sight
b) It was designed around the Canadian common CZ858
From what I have read on the internets nobody has tried it yet with a CSA built receiver, it isn't that expensive so I am tempted to order anyway and if it doesn't fit throw it on ebay:

Re: Scout rifle mounting ring for VZ58
I tried alot of the other mounts but didn't seem to have luck with them, been using the scout mount that replaces the rear sight with a vortex sparc 2 with the high mount to avoid getting hit by brass. It works surprisingly well. Also from Canada. I just got the idea to use on of those single Cantilever mounts and hold a long eye relief scope in place. Am I right in saying the last option has a pull pin that allows you to raise it to allow cleaning to occur? I think they have 3 types of vz's in Canada (the love their vz's as AK's apart from two variants are all but illegal, and they are popular in certain US states for similar reasons). The first variant is going through some legal trouble due to being built on a receiver that the RCMP reckon can be made full auto but they originally passed them as semi years ago and as such its's caused a stink that has gone all the way to the Canadian Parliament. Browning_grrl might comment maybe but they RCMP seem to be a slight law unto themselves here and having similar unrelated scandals to boot. But my main point is with that in mind aren't the CSA ones becoming more common anyway? If you do use it tell me how it went. I'm debating whether to spend anymore money on it at this stage as I was told to call a well known dealer about a system he's bringing in (its AR based but a self-ejector and it sounded like it would be priced to compete with the MARS).Fedaykin wrote:The old scope mount issue with the VZ58, if you want to go the scout route then get either the Fab defense Polymer rail:

I also realized the CSA's are becoming more common and I'm correct the CZ858's are the ones with the legal issue (right now there is talk of a 958 coming with a rail on that is held in place with set screws and replaces the rear sight, but its held up in Canada right now). It's amazing how much stuff has become available.
