1000 yard shooting the .308 with 190's

#1 Post by ovenpaa »

I threw a few 190 SMK's down the range yesterday, loaded for a leisurely 2400fps I was pleasantly surprised with accuracy and recoil and they stabilised nicely in my 1:12 barrel, it was all a bit of an experiment and it does make me wonder what they will shoot like at 1000 yards.

Have I been missing something here? ;)

What range did you try them at, ovenpaa and how long is the barrel?

No I only have 24" barrelled .308's - I do need to think about getting my black AI rebarrelled one day soon but will probably stop with 24" as it is a nice form and balance and shoots a comfortable MOA at 1000 with 155's and I use it quite often at 1200. I have my 7mm for more accurate 1000/1200 stuff and hopefully a 6,5x55 will be ordered in the morning which should also work at LR.

If it was with my home loads, to hit a target a thousand yds away I would have to have pointed it in the general direction of Mars, the bullet drop was that great.
