Cable lock for wall attachment

Before I get my FAC I am in the process of getting an SGC for some clay shooting. My force tells me that for one gun, a cable lock fixed to a wall should be sufficient. Once I get my FAC or another shotgun I will of course get a honking great cabinet but for now I'd like to avoid the hassle and go with a cable lock.

Could anyone recommend one that is going to be up to snuff? All I could find online that came with a baseplate for wall fixing was this.

If your FEO is happy with such a security device go for it! But do find somewhere away from the causal observer to locate it, and use tamper proof screws into a secure fixing.

Personally I would say look for a cabinet now, they often show up second hand for not a huge amount of money however you will need a mate with a car to help get it home. It is worth looking in the for sale adds in local gunshops and ask at the range office at Bisley.

Why not apply for both FAC and SGC at the same time? You can have a common referee, just 4 pictures signed as required, one visit and save most of the cost too! You can get the FAC with no firearms listed and then apply for a variation once you decide what you require.

I agree with Ovenpaa and get yourself a cabinet.You can often pick up secondhand ones cheap on the net when people upgrade as their gun collection grows.Just make sure its a deep cabinet if you're planning on having scoped rifles.

Shotgun cabinets are quite tall but not particularly deep, plus there are more shot gunners around so you may well find one easier as opposed to a rifle cabinet. Not to worry as a scoped rifle will sit sideways very nicely in a 4 shotgun cabinet as do old wooden Pre45 things.

Plus you are going to need a second cabinet at some point in time, plus a couple of ammunition safes, plus a sturdy work surface for reloading, plus boxes for dies and powder and primers and 'stuff'

I'd rather not get a cabinet yet if I can avoid it because I'll be moving house soon. I can abandon the cable lock, but I don't want to have to pry a massive steel cabinet off the wall and lug it across town, not to mention up and down the stairs :lol:

Everyone I have spoken to has impressed upon me the wisdom of getting the largest possible cabinet to cater for my coming addiction so I've got a rather cavernous jobby lined up for when I get my new place with separate ammo box, shelf, carpeted sides, its own en suite bathroom and everything :mrgreen:
