I bought some new 357 Privi cases a few months ago and find they've started splitting after 2 reloads. By splits I mean half an inch long not just didly ones round the top. I use 3.4g of Vectan AS behind a 158g lead bullet so hardly a heavy load. At this rate I'll be going back to using my old Starline cases which have been reloaded with the same load about 25-30 times. I only pensioned them off because I had started getting alot of splits but after that amount of reloads they didn't owe me much.
Has anyone else had problems with Privi cases?

I had the same thing with a few of their 44mag brass, only using 5.4 of TiteGroup. Chucked them and swapped to Starline :)
There's room for all Gods creatures, next to the mash and gravy :)

Another Starline fan here. I taper crimp mine with the seating die and have never had any splits in case neck, I'm up to 10 reloads so far with no problem.

All brass used in formng cases is pretty much the same stuff. Several drawing operations are required and the brass needs to be annealed between each one as it work hardens. After the final drawing operation, the brass should be annealed again, but some manufacturers seem to omit this stage which is vital to handloaders. Bertram brass is notorious for splitting in the first neck expanding operation, but it is actually good stufff---you just need to anneal it before use. Looks like this applies to privi cases as well.

I don't use PPU pistol cases but their rifle cases (308) are clearly annealed - I suppose they don't take as much care with straight walled pistol cases, but I find their rifle cases (308) of reasonable quality for the price and with the weight just short of military versions they don't skimp on the brass.

Thanks for your comments everyone. I think Starline is definitely the way to go in the future.
I use Privi cases for my 308 without problems so maybe it is just their pistol cases.

As said PPU or NNY headstamped 308 brass is a different story, it's clearly annealed and quite thick walled.
There's room for all Gods creatures, next to the mash and gravy :)
