In the complete absence of 62gr FMJ bullets in the UK, would you rather go down to 55gr or up to 69gr for target - and why?

Personally I use 75-80 gn bullets for target.
I've got a few hundred pulled RG bullets should you be interested in making me an offer for them.

Morning peeps,
I use 69 smk's in my Southern Gun AR15 ( 1 in 9 ish ) and seem to work very well ( at least for me ) Granted I've only shot it out to 200 yds.
I heard many moons ago from a bloke who stood next to somebody in a pub, who heard it in a bus queue :lol: that the heavier the bullet the greater the bearing area, so the more stable.
Now I don't know if thats complete tosh ? but it sounded fairly sensible so I tried the 69's rather than the 62's I had and it worked.
Like I said, could be complete nonsense but It works for me.
Sorry I cant be more scientific, but uncle Archimedes isn't here at the mo.

Most paper target shooting reloaders I know use 69 to 77 grain bullets if loading from a magazine, if single loading then some prefer to use 80 grain or even heavier although you may need to get your rifle throated correctly for these very long bullets.
Ideally you need a ‘fast’ twist for 69 grain and above with 1 in 9 considered a minimum; most I shoot with have either 1 in 8 or 1 in 7.
62 grain FMJ bullets are the standard for SS109 Spec NATO rounds but it is very difficult to replicate the performance as the necessary powders are not available to the civilian market.
I use a mix of 52, 69 and 77 grain SMKs, Lapua 77s and recently Nosler Custom Competition 52, 69 and 77s as they are very competitively priced.
