"Brand new" smle from C and G ?

As I understand it, they are original receivers with new walther barrel, new wood and other bits from unissued spares ?

Certainly look nice - like a brand new SMLE !

Just got a .303 slot and always wanted one. Not a No4 - only a SMLE will do. Just wanted to hear from anybody who has shot one............

What year is your SMLE ? A few people have tried mine and have talked about getting one depending on age and condition.

Just had a look and I can't see any dates, although I'm pretty certain Chris said it was around 1937 if memory serves me well. It's a BSA and it's still in the same condition when I bought it. I think I've put about 80 rounds through it.

No not tried a New SMLE from C&G but I did hear of one that had head space issue but this was soon put right.

I have access to 3 smle's all original and these are very good shooting rifles, good bores/head space etc for the same money you can find an original dated & matching good rifle that will have history been there done that, not one built from spares last week. Only my opinion...

I have one built on a BSA 1939 receiver with a magazine cutoff.

I have had no issues with it and I have fired 360 rounds.

No regrets whatsoever and it was a pleasure to meet and deal with Chris.

Nothing wrong with repro's so long as they are sold as repro's, marked and dated as such.

They're not reproductions IMO, the only non-original new part is the barrel, which on a wartime issue rifle has probably been replaced umpteen times before anyway.

Certainly not knocking anyone for buying one, they do have a part to play, for instance you can take it to the range and shoot all day without worrying about wearing it out, original SMLE's are getting rare (I shoot my all original 1917 Enfield sparingly for that reason).

I would have a few questions/reservations regarding these though.....I would want to know the origin of the receivers and bolts, are they recycled rifles, or never used components....if never used...WHY NOT?

How are they numbered, by C&G or BSA/dispersal wartime issue.

I guess my main concern would be if these had been rejected wartime components, not saying thats the case mind you, I would just want some history and clarification if it was me.
