Imperial entry form

#1 Post by Dangermouse »

Having received the entry form for the Imperial, with this seasons NRA journal, I sat down to see when the F Class competitions are taking place and when I will need to book annual leave.

Having studied the sheet, all be it with distractions, I am none the wiser and more than a little frustrated.
So far I have given the Imperial a wide birth but feel that I need to enter more F Class comps and would like to have a shoot with the possibility of nice weather.

Can anyone help?
I am assuming that their are no Gallery rifle comps during the meeting, does anyone know any better?

THe GR Events are being scaled down from lack of attendance and reducing entries over the past few years.

Usually on a separate entry form, I can let you know more on Monday when I go back to work

Having now sat down and read the Journal, it appears that the F Class entry form is on line - as is the Gallery rifle, which if not well attended will be the last one held during the Imperial, which may be the conversation that John was thinking of.

I have tried to access both the NRA and NSC home pages this morning with no joy. Could someone else please have a go and let me know if they have any luck, before I start messing with my computer,

If this is going to be your first 'Imperial', I suggest that you get a copy of the Bisley Bible and read it thoroughly. It tells you all about the rules and conduct of shooting and what is expected of you. In the latest NRA Journal, Iain Robertson has written a very good article(albeit from the TR aspect but is applicable to any class) which describes how things work.

As you are shooting F Class, you will shoot the same competitions as the TR boys and girls at the same time but on the F Class target. It may also be a good idea to sign up for the NRA Aunts and Uncles scheme. By signing up for this you will be allocated an Aunt/Uncle in your chosen discipline, who will help you through the meeting in what at times for a Imperial Virgin can be quite confusing.

My NRA Journal arrived today along with the entry forms. In the journal there is an explination of the Imperial, but like you I also want to enter more F/TR comps but I am still none the wiser about entry as there are s-o-o-o many comps so I am confused :?

I shall try to help. First off, get a Bisley Bible. It tells you which competitions are for F class and their conditions as some are slightly different from the TR Comps of the same name, noteably what the course of fire are. Some are 2+7, and some are 2+15 or 2+20.
The Imperial Entry form that you have recieved, is divided into Blocks. Blocks A and B are the individual competitions. Each competition has alongside it the distance that it is shot at and the date. Blocks C,D & E are aggregate competitions. These are made up of selected competitions from Blocks A & B.

Example, HM the Queens Prize, Ist stage (Q1) is shot at 300, 500 & 600 yds on Wed 20 July. If you have a Bisley Bible it tells you that the match conditions for Q1 are 2 sighters and 7 to count at each distance. If you are entering as F/TR or F open you will shoot alongside the TR shooters but on a separate Butt. For F/TR F/O, If you qualify by score(top 25%) you will go through to the final which is shot at 900 and 1000 yds (2+15 at each distance) on Friday 22 July.
If you don't make it into the Queens final you could always shoot the F class Queens Consolation.
F class can also shoot in the Match rifle Comps as F/Tr or F/O. These are all shot from 9 to 12 July at distances of 1000yds 1100 yds and 1200yds.

Hope this helps. Any questions just fire away and I shall try to help.

Just managed to get on to the NRA site and had a look at the on line booking form. Understand that I have not a tech no phobia, but I quickly got annoyed with that set up.
My club requires that I enter on paper and that is the method that I understand so I will phone the office tomorrow and ask for forms for the Phoenix and Imperial F/TR. Possibly also a bible if everything is in code.

I have got to say at this stage that I personally do not appreciate the mystique of the Imperial, the names given to the competitions, the different rules applied to this competitions, the different RO's, and the fact that every Journal appears to me to be solely produced to cover the Imperial meeting. This seasons actually manages to cover last years and this years competition.
On the issue of the Journal I would happily sign out of receiving it if I thought the money would be spent elsewhere.
I am a fan of Bisley and the NRA 99% of the time but for what ever reason this competition gets my back up and todays exploits dose not help me change my views,

Rant finished,
