155 AMax for 1000 yards
Has anyone tried pushing the .308 155 Amax out to 1000 yards? I have half a box that I want to try when I get a spare minute.
Re: 155 AMax for 1000 yards
A couple of our guys shoot 'em in 1000 yd BR in Factory Sporter.
They do OK but if I remember, according to Brian Litz, they have just about the worst BC of any of the popular 155 'match' bullets.
Cheers

I used to find they were very similar accuracy to the scenar 155gr in my AI up to 600 yds. Didn't shoot any further out though.

how do you get on with them 1000 yds + I find they are transonic at those ranges and have switched to 155grScotsgun wrote:I prefer 168gr, but more than a few swear by 175gr
What is a Sapper? This versatile genius condenses the whole system of military engineering and all that is useful and practical. He is a man of all work of the Army and the public ready to do anything or go anywhere, in short, he is a Sapper.
Re: 155 AMax for 1000 yards
Yup, i did the maths once which with my fav load came out at something like passing through at around 930yds but i find them stable and consistent.
Ballistic Co-efficients: 155gr-0.435 , 168gr-0.475 , 178gr-0.495
Sectional Density: 155gr-0.233, 168gr-0.253 , 178gr-0.268

Re: 155 AMax for 1000 yards
The only 168's I have used are Lapua Scenar and I struggled to get them to work at 1000, the 155's Scenar work incredibly well as do the 170 Lapua Lockbase as used in the 170HPS
Re: 155 AMax for 1000 yards
Did Litz not say DO NOT use 168's past 600 yards? They were designed for that range and become unstable there after.
Certainly speaking to a loader in my club, he whole heartedly agreed with those findings,

Re: 155 AMax for 1000 yards
I thought it was the 168SMK that was hopeless beyond 600?
I have shot Lapua out to 800 no real problems but at 1000 they really did not work for me. These days I only use Lap 168's for McQueen with a relatively low load of N140
