The finish on my GSG1911 LBP is starting to wear and in the near future I'll be looking to have it Cerakoted.
My concern is that the serial number on the frame & slide appears to be lightly etched or even painted on.
I had my Marlin coated a while back but since the serial number is stamped on there were no issues.
I've seen other LBPs for sale that have been refinished but I don't know how they got around the issue?

Re: Refinishing metal on a firearm - serial number.
We engrave numbers and logos with CNC then Cerakote and finally fill the details with laser, it looks good and gives a clearly defined number/logo.

What's the legality here. Can you re-locate the serial number yourself? or must an RFD do it for you?

I doubt there is any issue with a private owner relocating, re-engraving or duplicating the same serial number.
Obviously changing the serial number would bring the world to an end, etc..
