£1000 .308 opinions wanted
Ok, assuming I have around the 900 to 1000 max to spend on the rifle ( scope separate) what are your thoughts?
I want:
-a handy package, 20 inch barrell or less
-magazine fed, 5 & 10 rounders available
-not too heavy, 8 pounds or less
Now I know this is edging towards scout rifle specs, but I don't need it to be pure Cooper.
I want it to be able to be 1 moa out to 600m but equally usable for practical rifle.
I'm considering:
Howa 1500 with mag conversion, 20 inch fluted barrel
Weatherby vanguard 2 with the mag conversion an 20 inch
Ruger gunsite scout
Any opinions or other options?
Cheers
Ric

What dromia said....
However, given Edgar Brothers appalling attention towards anything Savage except rimfire, choice is sparse.
You may already by looking at something that fits your bill perfectly and with change..... the Howa.

In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

CZ550 Varmint chambered in .308W (although the heavy barrel is 25.6").
It's an old school Mauser-style action but works a treat and 10rnd magazines are available.

Mossberg make good bolt actions
It may also be an idea to source a good Rem 700 .308, then add an LTR type short barrel and one of Ovenpaa's own mag conversion units
Again, with CZ you're back dealing with Edgars

What about the new tikka t3 ctr, being released this year according to the tikka website
What is a Sapper? This versatile genius condenses the whole system of military engineering and all that is useful and practical. He is a man of all work of the Army and the public ready to do anything or go anywhere, in short, he is a Sapper.

Mate of mine recently made enquiries into buying a new Savage .308 - was told the waiting time was likely to be 3-6 months..........maybe.
