The NRA announces that RUAG ammunition for the Imperial and Inter Counties meeting is now in stock and available to purchase at £99 per 100...!!!!!

Surely it is time that the NRA got into the 20th century and allowed handloads in the Meeting......that price is just beyond.....nearly a quid at every trigger pull......no thanks....

Could have sworn I saw it listed at £101/100 not so long ago.

I don't think I'll ever be able to afford to enter the full Imperial meeting again if this continues. As it is, I can barely scrape together enough for the weekend aggregate - and that's without the latest brewing fiasco over tent prices.

Yes the ammunition is getting expensive but allowing hand loads in the Imperial becomes a whole can of worms. There is a large and significant sector of the Imperial Meeting for whom hand loads are a non starter - the Schools and Cadets and many of the under 25s who live at home and have no facility/opportunity to hand load.. The Cadets have to use 'issued ammunition' through their rifles especially if that are using the Cadet Target Rifle, so allowing hand loads would make the Imperial a two tier meeting as the schools and cadets would be using either RG 155 which they still get or whatever ammunition the NRA has as 'issued' and pay a premium to use it. Either way it will end up with less schools/cadets which would be a step backward for the Meeting.
If hand loads were allowed, to support the Schools/Cadets a 'corkage charge' could be levied on every competitor using hand loads of say 10p per round rand use this money to subsidise the Schools/Cadets and maybe anyone under full time education under these age of say 25.

The other issue with hand loads are the very important team events of the National, Mackinnon, Kolapore and Inter- Counties. As no-one knows who will be in these teams until they are announced/selected what ammunition will these use. If people are hand loading and shooters are using different bullets, charge weights etc, the team matches will become a farce as wind zeros will be different for all and coaching becomes a nightmare.

As I said it all becomes can of worms. What we need is high quality reasonable priced ammunition that will hold the V bull at all distances. Fortunately I believe that the NRA working on this for future years.

At present some of us, myself included have no option but to enter the meeting and pay the prices as we are trying to get on/stay on the GB Palma Squad so we just have to bite the bullet and get on with it. For me the Imperial is my summer holiday and i just save up for it very year like others save for their holiday.

Personally I would say sub £1 but ideally between 0.70p to 0.80p for high quality factory ammunition loaded with a 155/2155 Sierra Match King or equivalent at 2950fps. The 2156 and Bergers/Lapua Scenars have to be excluded as the majority of Target Rifles will not unload a live round with out removing the bolt.

I'd say it can be reduced quite a bit. Mine are still the right side of 40p.
