Wooden transit cases

For a reason I can no longer remember, I realised that with the exception of Enfields I could not remember seeing any Historic sniper rifles from other countries being offered for sale with wooden transit boxes as complete kits.

A quick Google search suggests that the British appear to have had a bit of a thing for supplying lots of firearms in wooden boxes over the years.
Is it just a British thing or did other countries par take as well?

I don't know about individual single-rifle boxes for sniper rifles, but wooden crates holding 10 or 20 standard rifles is pretty well the norm for shipping the things around the planet irrespective of country.

U.S. military rifles were shipped in crates but not individually. M1 rifles were also sealed in steel drums for extended storage. The M24 rifle now used by the Army has an issue hard case similar to a civilian rifle case but probably costs 10x as much!
