Using an OAL Gauge
Evening,
Quick question, when using a (Stoney Point) OAL gauge is it normal for the bullet to come out of the case & stick in the lands or am I just being ham fisted?
Cheers,
Mick.

Re: Using an OAL Gauge
It does happen, just push the bullet out with a cleaning rod pushed in from the muzzle end.
Re: Using an OAL Gauge
It is dependent on a few things including a delicate touch, the number of rounds down the barrel and how it was chambered in the first place. I have found a nicely hand lapped throat on a new barrel seldom holds the bullet when checking the OAL.

That will be the problem then
Re: Using an OAL Gauge
A tip for you, 'paint' the bullet with a black marker pen and if the bullet gets stuck inspect it after it has been removed and look at the witness marks.

Re: Using an OAL Gauge
Also use a piece of wooden or plastic dowel at the muzzle end to 'sandwich' the bullet between the pushrod and 'rock' it in / out of the lands until you get it feeling like its just touching.
