Ramshot Powders

I notice Pukkabundhooks sells Ramshot powders any body used any of there products I was thinking of using N160 for 6.5x55 does any one have any experience of the Ramshot powders in this calibre. I am thinking a 120grain bullet. Any body know how the burning rates compare with other powders.

Ramshot Hunter is two places in front of N160 in the burn rate chart. Data for a 120gn Sierra bullet, goes for a starting load of 41.1gns and a maximum load of 45.7. Velocity at maximum load is 2839fps. COL is listed as 3.00" dead, giving a pressure of 54930 psi.

Look up Ramshot's website which has product descriptions, Material Safety Data Sheets and a Burn Rate chart (under 'Products') and two full loads data PDFs to download from the 'LOAD DATA' section. The reason there are two is that one (very comprehensive) is for 'Wild Boar' which is a Europe only propellant, and yes it's available here.

All Ramshot powders are very fine grain ball types made by PB Clermont near Liege in Belgium. The company is a world leader in ball powder technology and these propellants are widely used in factory sporting and especially military smallarms ammunition.

One thing to note on the general Western Powders / Ramshot guide is that loads are provided for 'Accurate' powders. These are similar to but not the same as the 'Accurate' powders carried by some of our gunshops and imported by Westlander Limited in West Yorks. 'British Accurate' powders are Czech Lovex products and are gradually being renamed under their proper Lovex DO (double-base) or SO (singe-base extruded) descriptions. US Western Powders distributed 'Accurate' products are made elsewhere, the ball grades also by PB Clermont.

Ramshot powders are excellent. Good performance and burn very cleanly. Like all ball powders, the exterior case-neck fouling is burned onto the metal and is best removed quickly after shooting or it's hard to shift. (But less so than that from some other ball types I could name.)

Western lists loads for 6.5X55 with Ramshot Hunter and Magnum, the former better suited to 120gn bullets. Henry Krank the UK importer has now got Hunter available after a lot of delays. Its burning speed is between 4350 and 4831, a tad faster than Viht N160, but note that it contains noticeably higher specific energy levels than N160 as well as having a higher specific density - there are many other factors than burning rates alone when comparing powders.

Good powders, I use them. Hunter and Magnum are around the right burning rates for the 6.5 x 55 but Hunter is probably better for the lighter bullets as Laurie says, both in stock.

Spot on with that, I use Ramshot TAC in 5.56 and 7.62 and it meters beautifully through a lee powder measure.

I have been using Hunter and Big Game in my 260 along side N150 and N160.
The ES with Ramshot is single figures and so far I cant get that with the Viht powders.
The best in my 260 so far is Big Game even though, on paper, its too fast.(139gn bullet)
What I would like to see is Ramshot in 8lb or 3.5kg tubs.
When I first opened the Hunter is looked similar to Vectan SP7.
Considering where its made it wouldn't surprise me!
