CNC heads - a thing of Beauty.. part 2: results
Previously....
"I picked up some 6.5 CNC'ed bullet heads at the Shooting Show. Will be trying asap so will keep posted. An absolute thing of beauty and cheaper than a-Max's!! They also do Hollow points and had some superb expanding sub-sons in 308 at the show, not on web yet. Have a few to play with.
Good and bad is length, they are Looooong so should fly wonderfully but may not feed from mag. Also you need a fast twist barrel to shoot so check. ie my 260 wont like the 134grn even though I normally shoot 140's out of it so have some of the 118grn instead (The 118's are still 6mm longer than a 140 amax!!!!)
Check out,

I am quite excited."

So the very first go with some of theses CNC jobbies (neutral word)
Shot at 200 yards. CNC jobbies first then a set of a-max jobbies.
The target was shot in that orientation, ie up is up and the circles are drawn around a £1 coin
CNC jobbies on left amax jobbies on right.

Do Not right them off. I have'nt
The load was exactly the same as the amax jobbies. The jump was a thou and the powder was 560. All of which may be wrong for the CNC jobbies.
I will persist. I have a selection of powders I can use or beg or borrow and will try diff jumps and poss in the lands a bit.
They look ace so worth persisting with. As I try diff loads I will post

Did you shoot and foulers first?
Re: CNC heads - a thing of Beauty.. part 2: results
Also to the sane piece on the previous thread, no idea what the metal is but was told its not red copper or brass. Some unobtainium no doubt. Gun did not explode and there appears to still be rifling in the barrel.
My advice, have a go with some. they are British and will still be there when the US stops shipping anything that is shaped like a jobbie and they are lead free as are the hollow points. There was a ho ha about reds and lead inpregnation some time ago. Clearly this issue goes away with these.
Have a go

"CNC jobbies first then a set of a-max jobbies." as per noteovenpaa wrote:Did you shoot and foulers first?
Load BTW was 46 grns of 560 in both loads.
Re: CNC heads - a thing of Beauty.. part 2: results
The 'vertical' in the 'solids' group simply indicates that the rifle is out of 'tune' - which you would expect if you'd simply replaced the A Max with another bullet - whereas I assume you had tuned it for the A Max.
I've had a few of these 'solids' in the past but I must admit I'm a bit reluctant to try them - a bit like button-rifling your barrel every time you pull the trigger!
I think we will need shallower grooves if we are to shoot these bullets regularly. Also, what solvent do we use to get the bullet-metal out of the barrel?
Cheers

Its a thought and a good one. I think I will play more. I had wondered if there was an issue with weight but all seem v consistent.
Barrel is cleaned using bore foam, easy, and butches bore shine, traditional and slow

Westy..
Some years ago bought some Barnes TSX bullets. They are made of copper. I have to say I bought them for no reason other than curiosity. Whilst they did appear to expand beautifully I couldn't make them group nearly as well as the more conventional Jacketed bullets that I was already using. Looking at the picture of your two groups. I wonder if you might come to the same conclusion as I did.
6.5mm Barnes TSX bullets.
