The gun, which he was told had been deactivated, had "sat in a cupboard for about 25 or 30 years," he added.
Maybe it called the Police on it's self, for abandonment maybe? I wonder what they were searching his home for when they stumbled upon this gun?

Hmmmm, what is the bet that he will get off scot free because he is a Councillor and therefore above us mere mortals.
If it was a Chief Constable that it happened to, you can guess that it would never have come to court. Or am I overreacting and too suspicious?

I'd imagine due to some domestic altercation and Mrs Councillor knew of it's existence.... Pay back can be a bitch....

Gaz, you say automatic 5 years, is this actually the case? I ask because I am sure I have read of a couple of recent cases where people were handed down substantially shorter sentences.
