CNC heads - a thing of Beauty, will they be a joy for ever?

#1 Post by Westy »

I picked up some 6.5 CNC'ed bullet heads at the Shooting Show. Will be trying asap so will keep posted. An absolute thing of beauty and cheaper than a-Max's!! They also do Hollow points and had some superb expanding sub-sons in 308 at the show, not on web yet. Have a few to play with.

Good and bad is length, they are Looooong so should fly wonderfully but may not feed from mag. Also you need a fast twist barrel to shoot so check. ie my 260 wont like the 134grn even though I normally shoot 140's out of it so have some of the 118grn instead (The 118's are still 6mm longer than a 140 amax!!!!)

Check out,

I am quite excited.

Monolithics - truly works of art, with amazing BC's. Have you seen Lutz's offereings as well?

Downside is the DE don't like them because of the unpredictable ricochets on range's. Post some results up ASAP!!!

Yes the 'range' thing is possibly an issue. Some range orders ban them. Luckily for me all of my calibres are not associated with ranges so I will play. If I get chance will load up some today and get on it. They are making ones with separate inserted heads which neatly overcome that issue though. We should mention to them that its is required and there market would be much bigger if they did these at same price.

I had seen the Germans, but nice to buy at home.

They are just lovely things. Dunno what its like on barrel wear. I cant imagine its worse as long as they are not made from carbide or cement

You've started something now............ (forehead slap and shaking of the head smilie)
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Westy, it is a long story.

Basically the fine gentlemen on here prefer not to call the pointy end bullet heads.
They are bullets or as Ovenpaa says projectiles.

Just nod your head:)

Is this some loonacy akin to MacBeth? Do you have to dance around and pinch your arm at the mention of Boolit heeds? (Scottish accent you see - reference to the play, nice touch I thought)

Heed!
