Parker Hale M85
Has anyone on the forum ever owned one/shot one/seen one? Were they totally bespoke or based on another model? I have always wondered what they were like especially as they were so close to being the choice over the AI offering.

Re: Parker Hale M85
I think I remember seeing them in PH catalogues in the late 80s. They were around when the PH CF2 was being produced so don't know if it is the same action or not. Didn't a variant have a wooden stock and a stipled grip area rather than chequering? It was a lovely looking gun, very purposeful!
I saw one on GT last year and it was damn expensive!

Re: Parker Hale M85
I first thought the M85 was the rifle our sipers used, but they actually used the M82
until it was replaced by the SR-98 (AI-AW).
Was there any production of the M85?

I have, I have..
My club team mate has one and very nice it is too. He has been offered in excess of £1000 pounds on the firing point for the rifle alone.
He now has a S&B PMII scope on it which sets it up nicely. Clearly it shoots out to 1000 yards but I am starting to suspect that the barrel is starting to go - either that or his eye sight!
Would love to have one,

Re: Parker Hale M85
The PH M82 went into production and may still be in use in some countries, as far as I know the M85 never went beyond the stage of a few prototypes, but no doubt they are out there hopefully being used.
I have no reason to own an M82 or an M85 and I suspect they would cost the earth, certainly on par with an L42A1.... However it would be nice to build a replica of some sort, if people do it with Rem's for the M24 then why not a PH?

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools!!

Ovenpaa,
You are not too far away from Norman Clarks in rugby.
If you go there he has 4 or 5 M85 prototypes showing the progression and changes as this rifle developed.
I would love to own these as a display piece but sadly that would be pretty difficult here, but if you are so interested, it may be worth a visit just to view them.

Good point, I have never been to the new NC shop but I seem to remember the old one having some PH drawings and maybe the odd rifle or two dotted about.dta europe wrote:Ovenpaa,

Didn't Sabre threaten to build these a few years ago?
