'Big' Gun Safes - Recommendations?

#1 Post by judders »

Hello all,

I currently have a Brattonsound RD7+ safe, which is described as a 6/7 gun safe. I now have 4 rifles + an LBR in it and I honestly wouldn't want to try and squeeze anything else in there. I reckon the same people who measure tents for their man capacity also measure safes. Wishful thinking, for sure.

I still have two slots left that I do intend to fill, so will probably need to think about either an additional safe, or preferably, swapping out for a larger safe.

I'd appreciate any suggestions on safes that are bigger than the RD7+ I have, which is 1308H x 407W x 346D. Brattonsound don't do anything bigger, although there is a 9 gun listed on their website, it has the same physical dimensions as the RD7+.

Thanks,

Jud

The capacity given is usually based on normal shotguns, even when they're marketed as 'extra deep' rifle cabinets

I picked-up one of these on ebay for just over £100 (1500 x 700 x 330). With the shelf cut out it will take a match rifle with a 32" barrel. It is nominally a 12 gun cabinet; I plan to fit it out to take about 7 rifles/barreled-actions comfortably. I was really looking for a larger ammo cabinet, but this kills 2 birds with one stone. The old gun cabinet will take about 6000 rounds once fitted out with shelves.

That safe looks interesting, I take it youve had it passed by your FEO as I will need a new one, I already have 2 Brattonsound RL5+ and have out grown those.

I have 2 cabinets, the larger is a Buffalo River 10 gun silver series, 1500(h) x 520(w) x 360mm(d) As Mark has said quoted capacities are for O/U shotguns, with the 10 gun I can get 6 large scoped rifles in but wouldn't like to try and squeeze in a 7th!. They also do 14 and 22 gun safes but the 22 is very expensive, the 14 is around £419 and measures 1500 x 650 x 400
There's room for all Gods creatures, next to the mash and gravy :)

Keep an eye on eBay.

There are always - sadly - RFDs and gunshops going out of business, and large cabinets always crop up for sale. I've now got 11 gunsafes; only four of these are retail bought Brattonsounds, the others are all ebay acquisitions at a fraction of the new cost. Two of them are big enough for 40-50 odd rifles each, yet they only cost about £100 each.

The Buffalo River safes look very nice, but a bit pricey. That Infac safe looks like it would do the job though and they look to be £329 new inc. delivery. That said, I didn't think of eBay and I'm not in a mad rush, so I think I'll keep an eye out on there in the immediate future. If I could get something for £100'ish, that would be great.

Cheers!

Surely you are missing a trick... Why not convert a room into a safe? The ultimate man cave and room for more than just another couple of rifles.

I've been contemplating a gun room for a while, rather than buying another cabinet. I currently have a 5 gun shotgun brattonsound cabinet, and an RD7, and I need more room already!!
